Pope Francis arrives in Uganda

KAMPALA, Nov. 28 (MNA) – Pope Francis arrived on Friday in Uganda, the second country in his five-day tour of Africa.

His arrival in this capital at the international airport of Entebbe, the Supreme Pontiff was welcomed by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, officials, religious leaders and diplomatic representatives.

For the third time, this country welcomed a Bishop of Rome. The previous pope to visit Uganda was Paul VI in 1969 and John Paul II in 1993.

After a three-day visit to Kenya, the vicar of Argentinian origin will pay a two-day visit to Uganda also as messenger of peace and reconciliation.

This tour of the African continent is the 11th trip abroad by Francis since he was appointed as Pope in March, 2013. Currently, with more than 180 million Catholics, Africa is the region where the Christian community increases more in the world.
